Traveling for sales may sound like an exciting adventure, but seasoned professionals know it’s far from a leisurely journey. The life of a traveling salesperson is filled with hectic schedules, constant movement, and the need to juggle multiple responsibilities on the go. However, with the right strategies in place, navigating the challenges of life on the road can become a seamless and efficient experience.

Handling Administration while on the Move

One of the biggest challenges for traveling sales professionals is managing administrative tasks while on the move. From booking accommodations to organizing travel details, these tasks can quickly become overwhelming without a streamlined process in place. Utilizing technology and innovative apps like Hopper can help simplify the booking process and save valuable time.

Technology plays a crucial role in the success of traveling sales professionals. By leveraging CRM tools and mobile apps, sales reps can track meetings, manage client interactions, and stay organized on the go. Tools like Hopper can also help find the best travel deals and streamline booking processes, ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience.

Packing smart is as vital for salespeople as a reliable Wi-Fi connection during a virtual meeting. Picture this, you’re frantically stuffing clear ziplock bags with everything but the kitchen sink, including your trusty phone portable charger and a spare set of clothes, just in case you spill coffee on your lucky suit. And let’s not forget about the epic battle with your luggage, reminiscent of a scene from a comedy sketch, as you struggle to zip it shut while simultaneously praying it doesn’t explode mid-air. It’s a comedy of errors waiting to happen, but hey, at least you’ll be prepared for anything the sales gods throw your way!

Maintaining your fitness routine while jet-setting across the globe is like jogging through the maze of corporate jargon – it’s a workout in itself! Picture this: you’re doing squats in your hotel room while simultaneously practicing your elevator pitch, all to the rhythm of your own heavy breathing. It’s a symphony of sales prowess and physical exertion that would make even the most seasoned marathon runner break a sweat!

But let’s not forget the importance of hydration in this hilarious saga of sales and fitness. While you’re busy conquering the boardroom, don’t forget to conquer that water bottle too! It’s like fueling up your sports car before a race – without it, you’re just spinning your wheels. So, grab that H2O like it’s the elixir of sales success, because let’s face it, no one wants to be caught with a dry mouth mid-presentation!

And as for nutritious meals, well, they’re the secret sauce to your sales confidence. Picture yourself chowing down on a salad while brainstorming your next big pitch. It’s like feeding your brain with the fuel it needs to outshine the competition. So, skip the greasy fast food joints and opt for a power-packed meal that will have you closing deals faster than you can say “sales superstar”!

Maintaining a balanced diet while traveling is essential for keeping your energy levels up during busy schedules. Just like in sales, where strategic planning is key, ensuring you have access to nutritious meals on the road requires foresight and preparation. By planning your meals in advance and exploring local eateries for fresh options, you can sustain your energy levels and stay focused on achieving your sales goals. Additionally, considering alternatives like Airbnb for accommodations with kitchen facilities can provide the convenience of home-cooked meals, supporting your overall well-being while away from home.

Travel can take a toll on your physical health, so it’s important to prioritize self-care while on the road. Staying active, taking breaks during long flights, and incorporating bodyweight exercises into your routine can help alleviate stress and stay healthy during travel.

Maintaining mental health is crucial for sales professionals on the road. Practicing mindfulness techniques, setting boundaries for work hours, and making time for leisure activities can help prevent burnout and ensure you stay focused and motivated during travel.

Sales pressure can feel overwhelming, but mastering it is crucial for success in any sales role. Whether you’re a seasoned sales professional or new to the field, understanding how to thrive under pressure is key to hitting your sales goals. In this article, we’ll explore five top tips to help you navigate and excel under pressure.

Understanding Sales Pressure:

Sales pressure is a common challenge faced by sales professionals, stemming from various internal and external factors. These include expectations from managers, colleagues, clients, and oneself, as well as environmental constraints and personal readiness to perform. While pressure can feel daunting, it’s essential to recognize that it’s a mental construct influenced by our reactions to external stimuli.

Reframing Pressure

The first step in managing sales pressure is reframing it as the illusion it is. Pressure is not something that happens to us; rather, it’s something we create in our minds. By understanding this, we can take control of our reactions to pressure and use it to our advantage.

Top 5 Tips to Thrive Under Pressure

  1. Focus on Sales Activity

Instead of fixating on the outcome of a sale, focus on the sales activity itself. Recognize that you control only your actions, not external factors. By approaching pressure situations as practice matches and striving for excellence in your actions, you can alleviate the burden of outcome-related pressure.

  1. Practice at Performance Level

Train and practice at the same level that you aim to perform. Utilize role-play exercises to simulate challenging sales scenarios and hone your skills. By practicing consistently and integrating learning into daily interactions, you’ll build confidence and competence in handling pressure situations.

  1. Cultivate Laser Focus

Develop the ability to maintain laser focus during high-pressure situations. Avoid multitasking and distractions, and concentrate fully on the task at hand. Through daily practice and long-term dedication, you can train yourself to remain focused and composed, even in chaotic environments.

  1. Embrace Slowing Down

Resist the urge to rush through tasks when under pressure. Instead, adopt a deliberate and methodical approach, focusing on accuracy and quality. Slowing down allows you to maintain control over the situation and minimize errors, ultimately reducing the pressure you feel.

  1. Trust Your Sales Process

Have confidence in your sales process as a reliable framework for guiding your actions. Practice and internalize the steps of your process until they become second nature. By following a structured approach, you can navigate pressure situations with clarity and efficiency, knowing that you have a proven methodology to rely on. Switching off from work is essential for preserving mental health while traveling. Developing habits like meditation or reading to unwind after meetings and engaging in activities that bring joy can help maintain a healthy work-life balance on the road.

Creating a structured work schedule is essential for managing time effectively while traveling. Keeping work and personal life separate, scheduling meetings strategically, and optimizing downtime for productive tasks can help maximize productivity and efficiency on the road. Traveling for sales may present its challenges, but with the right strategies in place, it can also be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. By prioritizing efficiency, maintaining self-care routines, and leveraging technology, traveling sales professionals can navigate the complexities of life on the road with ease and achieve success in their endeavors.

Post-Brexit: data protection
Card processor sends sensitive data to wrong address
24 August 2022

Worldline SA subsidiary Payone GmbH has been accused of breaching data protection rules after it sent sensitive employee payroll information to the wrong address by accident. The Worldline Group holdS a 60% stake in the Frankfurt based company who have a small UK market presence.

In June 2021, one of Payone GmbH’s ex UK employees (the data subject) received a “potential data breach notification” from the firm advising him that his salary, National Insurance data, nationality (Special Category Data) was amongst various bits of information sent to an incorrect home address.

This included personal information such as the former employees name, age and address.  It also included details such as the date of birth and the amount of annual work bonus he received in his bank account amongst other identifiable data.

Payone GmbH confirmed that this document was sent out in error following an employee making a mistake when re-entering data processed by their third-party payroll provider.  The error arose when the employee was fulfilling an Article 15 GDPR request. The error was spotted by the data subject when he noticed in an email version of the document that the postal address was incorrect. An attempt to notify Payone GmbH of the error went in vain as the document was already irretrievably despatched.

The data subject was alarmed with the incident which exposed him to the possibility of fraudulent activity, amidst reasonable fears his data could end up on the dark web and used by criminals.  Habitually resident in the UK he complained to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in June 2021. He similarly raised the concern in Germany via The Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HBDI).

The ICO reprimanded Payone GmbH for the error in their final decision letter.
Similarly, the HBDI cited a violation of Article 5(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) relating to integrity and confidentiality.

The ICO stated in their July 2021 findings that Payone GmbH, “should take steps to ensure that all personal data records are accurate and up to date. Holding inaccurate information, such as addresses, does increase the risk of personal data breaches and poses risks to the security of information”.

The HBDI confirmed in their October 2021 findings that Payone GmbH had taken remedial action. They concluded that a monetary fine would not be imposed on Payone GmbH as they had taken technical and organisational steps in response to the data breach. Data subjects could now request their data in an autonomous portal.

The GDPR, which came into effect in 2018, gave the Information Commissioner’s Office greater powers to tackle data breaches. The new ‘UK GDPR’ charts its own course after Brexit whilst seeking to maintain EU GDPR adequacy.  In extreme scenarios, organisations face penalties of up to £20m or 4 per cent of their global worldwide turnover, whichever is more.

In the years prior to GDPR, the ICO fines were capped at £500,000.

The data subject said: “I am just glad I spotted it; they were going to resend the document again to another wrong address. Prior to Brexit the process would have been commenced via the ICO who in turn would liaise with the HBDI on the data subjects’ behalf; but I found myself communicating with both authorities separately which was an additional step but in the end was surprisingly
effective. Unfortunately, Payone GmbH again sent my incorrect address to the
Workers Pension Trust in January 2022, and documents yet again went to the wrong address. In my opinion they have not learned from the first time and my complaint is sitting with the ICO yet again”.

The former employee is pursuing a remedy under Article 82 UK GDPR via
the Court’s of England & Wales.
