UK pub chain JD Wetherspoon has incorporated Payit by NatWest into its mobile app, allowing customers to use Open Banking technology for food and drink payments.
With this integration, Wetherspoon patrons across the UK can now pay for their orders directly through their banking app without needing to enter card details or create an account. This new payment method simplifies the process and enhances security by minimizing the risk of sensitive information being compromised.
The service is available to all Wetherspoon customers, regardless of their bank, as Payit by NatWest is connected to 24 banks, including the nine largest in the UK. Customers can easily select their preferred bank account to complete their transactions.
Mark Brant, Chief Payments Officer at NatWest Group, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “Partnering with a well-known brand like JD Wetherspoon is an exciting development for Payit by NatWest. It allows us to offer a large consumer base a cost-effective payment solution.”
Brant further emphasized the importance of providing advanced payment technology to a wide audience: “Our goal is to ensure as many consumers as possible have access to the latest payment innovations. Open Banking technology enhances security by reducing the risk of card details being exposed.”
Earlier this year, Payit by NatWest revealed survey results indicating that UK businesses using Open Banking have saved an average of 150 hours annually on operational tasks such as processing invoices, handling recurring payments, and managing refunds.
The integration with JD Wetherspoon represents a significant step forward for Payit by NatWest, expanding its reach and demonstrating the practical benefits of Open Banking technology in the hospitality sector.
