Visa and USAID have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at increasing access to digital government systems and enhancing financial inclusion in developing regions. This partnership will combine Visa’s payments expertise with USAID’s development mission to help governments adopt digital platforms that connect citizens to essential government services.
The joint initiative aligns with USAID’s Digital Policy and will target emerging markets, initially focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Caucasus. Through this collaboration, Visa and USAID aim to strengthen digital infrastructure, foster economic growth, and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These digital systems will enable citizens to access government services and make secure digital payments, creating a more inclusive environment for both individuals and businesses.
The partnership builds on the established relationship between Visa, the Visa Foundation, and USAID to drive global digitization and financial inclusion. A recent example of this collaboration is their work with Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation to develop Diia, a mobile app that provides millions of Ukrainians access to over 120 government services.
In addition, Visa Foundation and USAID are founding members of the Climate Gender Equity Fund (CGEF), an initiative supporting gender-equitable, climate-smart small businesses worldwide. Chris Newkirk, Visa’s Global Head of New Flows, underscored the significance of this partnership, noting how digital systems can enhance transparency and foster a favorable environment for entrepreneurs. Christopher Burns, USAID’s Chief Digital Development Officer, added that public-private cooperation is essential for building an inclusive digital future.
Through this initiative, Visa and USAID hope to bridge the gender digital divide, support economic development, and advance financial inclusion across emerging markets, building a foundation for sustainable growth and digital connectivity.
